About the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal

The South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (SACAT) is a state Tribunal that helps people in South Australia to resolve matters within civil and administrative law, either through agreement at a conference or mediation, or through a decision at a hearing. SACAT also conducts reviews of Government decisions.

SACAT strives to be accessible and responsive to user needs, and deals with cases in a range of areas (or jurisdictions), such as residential tenancies, mental health, guardianship & administration and a wide range of administrative decisions made by other areas of Government. SACAT is an independent statutory authority that operates across the state of South Australia and is a key part of the state justice system.

SACAT has been established for almost 4 years and operates in a high volume and fast paced environment. It utilises end to end digital systems and strives for continuous improvement, efficiency, accessibility and the delivery of fair outcomes.

SACAT is continuing to expand its jurisdiction and following the immanent colocation of all of its staff and members will undergo a period of consolidation of its processes and procedures.

 

About the Opportunity

The Principal Registrar will be required to support the President in the all aspects of the administration of the SACAT.

The successful applicant will be highly qualified and have impeccable integrity and have proven ability to lead a continuous change agenda and business process improvement, in a complex environment that champions modern technologies. They will be a strategic thinker and have high level analytical and communication skills in order to be successful in the role. Although it is not an essential requirement that the successful applicant be or have been a legal practitioner it is critical that they be familiar with the nature and complexities of the legal system and legal practice. Experience in court or tribunal management is highly desirable.

The responsibilities of the Principal Registrar include:

  • Assist the President in the administration of the Tribunal;
  • Strategic leadership of the Registry;
  • Leadership and management of senior staff; and
  • Assist the President to devise and implement revised governance and registry structures and coordinate streamlining of registry processes and procedures.

   

Special Conditions for Employment

Appointment is dependent upon a Security clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be advised to submit a Department of Human Services (DHS) Screening Application, which requires identification documents, if an interview is requested. The screening application is not to be lodged directly with DHS under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.
