About the Role:

As the Program Accountant you will work closely with project staff and deliver specialised financial advice, support and oversight to complex multi million dollar project(s). You will be part of an existing collaborative and supportive team of finance and business staff and will also work closely with the Water Infrastructure and Operations (WIO) Governance team and Corporate Finance in the delivery of a suite of finance functions that aligns to both DEW and external funding agreement requirements.


To be successful in the role, you will have significant experience and well developed finance skills, the ability to establish strong key relationships and be a team player and solutions focused.


What can a day in the role can look like…..

  • Joint development of multi million dollar program and project budgets with project staff and Managers
  • Provision of financial analysis and advice to support a strategic approach to decision making that in turn maximises outcomes
  • Rigorous analysis, reconciliation and reporting to ensure alignment of project workplan budgets with branch budgets
  • Identifying risks and/or opportunities and referring accordingly, including advice/recommendations
  • Contributing to project progress reporting for external funding partners
  • Contributing to the development and oversight of project/program funding agreements and variations.

Contract: Contract for up to December 2022, with possibility of further extension.

Special Conditions:

  • May be required to participate in fire management or associated duties.
  • Some out of hours work may be required.
  • This role has been designated as a Position of Trust pursuant to the standards required in the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework. Additional Information:

This is a merit pool and applicants may be offered a position on a term or ongoing basis based on organisational needs. 

Remuneration: $92,784 min - $98,143 max p.a., pro rata for part time hours

Applicants are requested to submit their application which must include their current CV and a written statement (no more than 3 pages) demonstrating their relevant experience to the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of all aspects of finance including analysis, reconciliation, reporting, budget development, forecasting, program performance and overall financial management.
  • Provision of advice, support and reporting to senior staff that supports a strategic approach to financial decision making, budgeting and funding strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing strong key networks and relationships to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Proven ability to convey both financial and qualitative information to stakeholders with no financial background.
  • Maintains a thorough and up to date knowledge of relevant legislation, accounting principles and standards including financial accounting systems.
  • Previous experience with large, complex, multi million dollar project budgets (desirable).
  • Previous experience in finance within the public sector (desirable).
