About the opportunity:

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Gas Installation and Appliance Inspector

The role is responsible for: 

  • Contributing to the achievement of the safety and technical compliance of gas installations and appliances within South Australia by contributing to compliance with the requirements of the Gas Act 1997.
  • Promoting and enforcing technical and safety standards relating to residential / commercial and industrial gas installations and appliances.
  • Providing assistance and references to licensed gas contractors, registered gas workers and others on appropriate standards and codes relating to gas installations and appliances.
  • Conducting safety and technical audits of gas installations and appliances.
  • Producing and presenting information sessions for groups of varying size and composition.

Key selection criteria:
Please only address the dot points listed below in your application 

  • Experience in providing consultation and advisory services on a wide range of gas safety and technical compliance issues.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Australian Gas Installation Standards – AS/NZS 5601 Parts 1 and 2.
  • Knowledge of Australian Standards –AS 3814, and AS/NZS 1596, and knowledge of the Gas Act 1997 or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge.
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with team members and a broad range of external parties at all levels, including proven ability to competently and appropriately represent the Department and to consult, liaise, influence and negotiate in a wide variety of forums as required. 
  • Demonstrated capacity to undertake investigations, research and analysis to effectively identify non-conformance within the gas industry, make sound and timely decisions and prepare and present clear and concise reports with recommendations.


Essential qualifications:

  • South Australian Gas-fitting Trade qualifications (or equivalent interstate or overseas qualifications that has been recognised under a reciprocal licensing agreement with the South Australian Office of Consumer and Business Affairs) that has enabled the applicant to gain a full (unrestricted) gas fitting worker’s registration. Conditions will read, in part, - can perform any gas fitting work.


Remuneration:
OPS5 $78,504 - $85,183 per annum (plus 10.5% superannuation) 
Full time role, working 37.5 hours per week
