About the opportunity:

An opportunity has become available for a Principal Geochemist to join the Mining Regulation Branch.  As the Principal Geochemist you are responsible for providing expert technical advice and guidance for the regulation of mining and quarrying operations.  The role provides specialist input to regulatory policies, standards and procedures and contributes to the assessment of complex mining projects to ensure the implementation of sound risk and science-based outcomes.

Key selection criteria:

  • Proven experience in the provision of specialist advice on the geochemical risk as it relates to the mining and quarrying industry
  • Demonstrated high level knowledge and understanding of geochemistry
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to use collaborative and consultative communication styles
  • High level skills in analytical thinking and problem solving

Essential qualifications:

Tertiary qualifications in science, applied science or related field

PO4 $105,860 - $115,208 per annum
Full time role, working 37.5 hours per week

Special conditions:

  • A valid driver’s licence is essential
  • Some out of hours work and inter/intrastate travel, including fieldwork may be required.
