About the opportunity:

An exciting exciting opportunity has become available for a Deputy Director of the Geoscience and Exploration Branch, Energy Resources Division in the Department for Energy and Mining (DEM-ERD).

The Deputy Director is an important role within the leadership team of DEM-ERD and is a key person to facilitate and drive the strategic vision for energy resource research directions for the organisation. The role provides expert professional, leadership, analytical, business and project management skills to deliver critical and complex energy resource geoscience programs aligned with Branch and DEM-ERD priorities, strategies and targets.

Key selection criteria:
DEM is looking for an  experienced and enthusiastic leader that will help shape the team and drive successful outcomes for South Australia and the sector. 

Key experience and abilities with key experiences including:

  • Proven high level project management expertise in successfully planning and delivering complex major geoscientific projects, including skills in leading high quality project monitoring, budgeting, reporting and analysis.
  • Extensive demonstrated experience and proven expertise in both the business of, and science of, petroleum and energy resource exploration.
  • Sound knowledge of the global and local economic landscapes and issues affecting the upstream petroleum sector, the emerging energy resource sector (e.g. natural hydrogen, geothermal energy) and the South Australian economy - in the context of critical social, economic and commercial considerations.
  • Significant analytical, business, commercial and management expertise, including demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining high performing teams with a positive and supportive culture.


Essential qualifications:
Post graduate qualifications in Geology, Petroleum Geology or Business Management.

  • This is a full time, ongoing role.
