The Women's & Children's Health Network provides state of the art health care for women, babies, children and young people across South Australia.  We are the state's leading provider of specialist care for children with acute and chronic conditions as well as being SA's largest maternity and obstetric service. 

Our community-based services also reach hundreds of thousands of babies, children and young people, their families and communities across South Australia through our various services and programs in areas such as our Mental Health, Child & Family Health services, Youth Health and Aboriginal Health services.

The Opportunity

We currently have 5 FTE as Paediatric Critical Care/Acute Care/Retrieval Registrars in a Full Time 3 year term contract from 5 Feb 2024 until 1 Feb 2027.

Advanced Trainee Medical Officer positions are annual temporary appointments for 12 - 36 months to support ongoing training for registered RACP , CICM or ACEM trainees. Trainees are an essential component of medical services offered by WCHN in South Australia.

These positions will rotate between to support the PICU/PED and MedSTAR allocations per current budgets.The overall rotations between these services could range from 12 months to 3 years and it will be flexible depending on trainee requirements. The allocation of trainees to departments, and the timing of those allocations would be up for negotiation between the departments and it would take it consideration the applicants preferences. 

The Retrieval Registrar MedSTAR Kids will work with an experienced Neonatal and Paediatric Retrieval Nurse to deliver high quality, patient focussed care to critically ill or injured children and neonates. The Retrieval Registrar MedSTAR Kids will respond by road vehicle, turbo propeller fixed wing aircraft or helicopter and will bring experience in neonatal and paediatric critical care medical disciplines to patients in inter-facility transport and retrieval environments.

Under Consultant supervision, the Medical Practitioner - Paediatric Emergency, provides comprehensive, effective and efficient Paediatric Emergency Services to WCH patients by managing the care of all emergency presentations and Extended Care Unit inpatients, including the coordination of investigations, supervision of RMOs and Interns, discussion with patients / families, liaison with statutory authorities and patient discharge.
 
The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit Registrar position offers broad experience in Paediatric critical care. Under Consultant supervision you will work integrally with an experienced team to provide high quality care to critically ill and injured children.
The Registrar will demonstrate a commitment to clinical teaching and participate in associated research projects.

Experience in acute care is vital.

Successful applicants to MedSTAR Kids rotations will need to:
• Hold a current valid driver's licence
• Agree to undergo a Medical which includes a functional assessment
• Attend HUET at Orientation (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training). Candidates do not need to be able to swim but training takes place in a shallow pool.
