About the Role:
The Accounting Officer role within the Department for
Environment and Water (DEW) provides quality financial accounting
and administrative advice and services to internal clients across
the department and is responsible for the continuous monitoring and
assessment of the systems controls performance, review of relevant
policies and procedures and systems data validation. The position
also provides clients with timely, relevant, quality reporting and
actively participates in preparation and external audit activities
associated with financial statements.
The key role outcomes include:
- Key accounting functions including journal preparation,
asset capitalisation and preparation of financial statements
are completed within set timeframes.
- Account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations,
are undertaken as directed.
- DEW Purchase Cards System, Basware Accounts Payable System
and other financial systems are effectively managed, including
analysis of existing user data to identify deviations and
provide recommendations to managers.
- Improvements to financial control processes and systems are
identified and implemented.
- Quality relationships with key business contacts across the
Agency and external service providers, such as Shared Services
SA, are built and maintained to facilitate the department's
overall financial compliance program
To succeed in the role, you will need:
- Demonstrated data analysis skills and experience, within a
learning or professional accounting environment.
- Ability to identify inconsistencies or discrepancies in
information and effectively determine practical solutions that
align with organisational/customer needs, or provide
recommendations to managers on how to best resolve/action.
- Seeks input from others with useful knowledge and
experience as well as diverse perspectives in exploring and
analysing possible solutions to problems.
- Comprehensive understanding of accounting standards and
principles.
- Demonstrated accounting experience within a customer
service environment is desirable.

Desirable Qualifications:
A tertiary
qualification in Accounting or Finance is desirable.
Special Conditions:
- May be required to participate in fire management and
associated duties.
- Inter and intra state travel may be required.
- Some out of hours work may be required.
- Position may rotate between other Finance roles at the same
classification as required.
- This role has been designated as a Position of Trust
pursuant to the standards required in the Australian Government
Protective Security Policy Framework. By applying for this role
you consent to being screened under the process of obtaining a
National Police Clearance (NPC), and to the Department
requiring you to obtain an NPC.
Remuneration: ASO4 - $76,561 min - $80,256 max
p.a.
