About the vacancy

As we continue to deliver a strong program in 2025, Adelaide Festival Centre is looking for a technical theatre professional to support the leadership of the Staging Department.

Reporting the Head of Department (HoD) - Staging, the Deputy HoD Staging will support the effective and efficient management of the Staging Department by providing leadership, training and mentoring to the Staging Team. This role is responsible for ensuring crews are rostered and managed in accordance with Enterprise Agreement and Work Health and Safety legislation.

The Deputy HoD will assist with the coordination and communication of activities within all venues, support the capital and upgrade works as they relate to Staging, as well as lead the development and refinement of asset maintenance and safety information and protocols within the Staging Department.

This role is available in a full-time capacity for a period of three years, and an Attraction and Retention Allowance is payable for the first two.  If you can hit the ground running and are experienced in Staging for events and performances don’t miss this opportunity to apply!

Responsibilities

  • Assist the HoD - Staging to manage, mentor and develop Staging staff and to identify avenues for continuous skill development to consistently deliver high levels of customer service;
  • Actively contribute to a positive work environment that is respectful and solutions focused;
  • Liaise with internal and external customers by providing cost effective technical advice and design solutions;
  • Develop weekly rosters ensuring all industrial and Work Health and Safety requirements are satisfied;
  • In consultation with the HoD, monitor operational costs in the Staging Department ensuring they are within budget guidelines;
  • Identify training needs in the department and provide advice and guidance as required;
  • Attend production meetings as representative of department as required;
  • Assist the Production Coordinators with technical advice for both internal and external customers;
  • Assist with the coordination and delivery of Staging requirements;
  • Identify and determine specifications and requirements for technical documents such as tenders and proposals.

Competencies and Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in a challenging work environment with an ability to promote team spirit and mentor staff;
  • Demonstrated experience as a senior Staging Technician in a variety of theatres including lyric and black box;
  • Sound understanding of the parameters of Enterprise Agreements and underpinning Award as they relate to rostering and employment conditions;
  • Rostering experience using a Time and Attendance System within a large and complex performing arts organisation;
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships at all levels;
  • Organisational and planning skills including the ability to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines under pressure;
  • Extensive work experience within a large Arts Centre/Venue.
  • Sound understanding of Content Manager, TimeTarget and EBMS software (highly desirable)
  • Successfully completed or obtained RPL status for tertiary qualifications in management or technical theatre (highly desirable)
