About the Role:
- High level ecological expertise and timely, informed advice
is provided to ensure decision making is sound and underpinned
by scientific evidence.
- Regional employees are kept informed about relevant
ecological information and are mentored in ecological practice
and communications to ensure they are knowledgeable and
understand their role in delivering contemporary ecologically
appropriate programs.
- Effective delivery of fire management program priorities,
ensuring the region’s environmental assessment processes
are sound, best practice pre and post fire weed management is
undertaken and appropriate monitoring programs are
implemented.
- Effective regional nature conservation and wildlife
management programs are delivered and supported through expert
ecological advice.
- Co-operative working relationships are developed and
maintained with key stakeholders, Regional NRM/Landscapes SA
employees, e-NGOs, interest groups, the community and
landholders to encourage their engagement in the successful
implementation of park and wildlife management projects,
initiatives and activities.
- Best practice operational activities occur in accordance
with state and commonwealth environmental legislation,
established scientific procedures and agreements.
- Guidance and direction is provided to staff as required to
support the delivery of effective conservation projects and/or
services.

Contract:
two positions available
one position up to 30 June 2026
one position for up to 12 Months
Essential Qualifications:
- Degree in ecology, environment, conservation biology or a
related discipline.
Special Conditions:
- Will be required to participate in emergency operations
including bushfire operations, search and rescue and marine
mammal strandings. This may require, at times, some out of
hours work including the participation in an
“on-call” roster.
- Will be required to undertake a medical and fitness
assessment for a Fire Fighting Role Classification as defined
in the DEW Fire Management Policy and Procedures.
- May be required to work alone in a field environment.
- May be required to work from any location within the region
or any region or management unit within the state.
- Will be required to wear a uniform in accordance with DEW
policy.
- A current class “C” driver’s licence and
willingness and ability to safely operate a 4wd is
essential.
- Inter and intrastate and remote area travel is required,
including travel in light aircraft.
- A current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID001; HLTAID002 and
HLTAD003) is highly desirable.
- This role has been designated as a Position of Trust
pursuant to the standards required in the Australian Government
Protective Security Policy Framework. By applying for this role
you consent to being screened under the process of obtaining a
National Police Clearance (NPC), and to the Department
requiring you to obtain an NPC.
Remuneration:
PO2 $88,255 min - $97,667 max p.a.
