Trainees

Traineeships are available across the public sector in a variety of work areas offering great career opportunities for young South Australians.

Public Sector Trainee Program

The Skilling SA Public Sector program is one of the key drivers for creating a flexible and diverse public sector workforce.

Through this initiative, new trainee positions are being created across the government to rejuvenate the sector and promote employment opportunities in South Australia.

Trainees will:

  • receive on the job training in a supportive environment
  • undertake a Certificate III, in a relevant discipline
  • build valuable professional networks
  • access our mentor program
  • be supported by the Office of the Commissioner for Public Sector Employment.

A traineeship within the South Australian Public Sector allows you to learn in a supportive work environment. You'll be paid to undertake a mixture of study and on-the-job training, culminating in a nationally-recognised vocational qualification.

A trainee's qualification is decided by an agency based on workforce requirements and will be specified in each job advertisement.

Skilling SA Public Sector program

The Office of the Commissioner for Public Sector Employment is driving the Skilling SA Public Sector program to support more than 2600 participants to undertake a vocational qualification in the SA Public Sector over four years (up to June 2022). A Signature Project of the state government’s Skilling South Australia initiative, the program will build workforce capability by providing education and career opportunities for South Australians, and includes the public sector Aboriginal Traineeship Program.

The Skilling SA Public Sector program introduces an expanded scope of eligible qualifications in areas such as IT, Cyber Security, Health and Education Services, Human Resources, Work, Health and Safety and Project Management.
