I saw a local advertisement for Correctional Officers and I thought it would be something different. I was working away from home a lot before that and I preferred to be home. It took me a while before I was willing to give it a go, but I haven't looked back.
An average day for me includes observing prisoners, facilitating prisoner movements and assisting prisoners with their daily routine. I communicate with prisoners frequently and work in a team with other officers.

I love the comradery of working with other officers. I've made some good friends here. I really have a sense of satisfaction when I solve problems. I also love being able to build rapport with prisoners and to positively influence them.
I am serving my local community and keeping it safe.
The six weeks' annual leave and seven day a week roster means I have flexibility when taking time off.
There is also a lot of opportunity within the prison and additional training is offered.
I was born and bred in Port Augusta and love contributing to the local community.
