I have a Bachelor of Arts but I’m studying a Bachelor of Social Work at Flinders University. As a part of my studies I undertook a placement with the Department for Child Protection and after I completed my placement I was offered a job as a Support Worker.
An average day for me involves supporting social workers with various tasks so they are able to spend more time with their clients.
I love helping people and my job allows me to do this daily. I am able to make a difference in the work lives of my colleagues as well as the lives of young people, even if it is a small difference.
I find my role rewarding. Being able to help and support people aligns with what I studied at university and who I’ve always aspired to be.
Within the office I work there is a great sense of community, which makes coming into work every day an enjoyable experience.
The flexibility I have has allowed me to continue my studies and further my future career, which is really important to me.
I have grown up in South Australia and by working in the department I have been given the opportunity to give back to my community. Also, South Australia offers a laidback lifestyle that is reflective of my personal life.
