Senior Advisor, Financial Management

Department of Treasury and Finance

How did you get to where you are today?

I joined the Department of Treasury and Finance in June 2017 as a Senior Advisor, Financial Management.

Prior to moving into the public sector, I was a Finance Manager for Mantra Group, a leading accommodation company. I was responsible for the overall leadership and management of the commercial and finance activities in South Australia.

I am a CPA qualified commercial and financial executive with over 10 years’ experience in senior finance roles in hospitality, catering and the wine industry. I successfully completed a Master of Business – Accountancy from the University of South Australia in 2009.

What does an average day look like?

For me, no two days are the same. One minute I will be working with the internal team to ensure projects are on-track, and the next I will be responding to various public authorities’ enquiries, DTF Secure content updates or working with the directors on pressing issues.

What do you love about your job?

A large part of every job is the people you work with. I've been very fortunate since my move into the Department of Treasury and Finance to work with some of the most interesting, engaging, and passionate individuals.

Why do you do what you do?

I work with colleagues who are just as passionate about making a difference. Together we are driving improvements in all areas of policy and service delivery including the most challenging issues in emerging new accounting standards.

Things tend to change very quickly here and my job is never boring!

What do you see are some of the benefits of working in the public sector?

Working at Department of Treasury and Finance surprised me. I’m driven to work for this department and the South Australian Government as a whole, because of the diversity of opportunities across the department and a range of wonderful projects that will transform Adelaide and contribute to South Australia’s prosperity.

Why have you chosen to work in South Australia?

I migrated to South Australia with my family in 1999 as part of the refugee program led by the South Australian Government from former Yugoslavia. I came to an ‘unknown land’ with a ‘dream’ to help my family to have a better life in a new country, enjoy a little bit of sunshine and a plan to go back to Serbia after two years.

And now, nearly 20 years later, I am still here! For me South Australia is truly a brilliant blend of lifestyle and opportunities. A place I call home!
