Find out more about CALHN sites and services, our stories and the opportunities to be part of CALHN About the role An exciting opportunity is presented for an individual with a genuine interest in Geriatric Medicine who wants to undertake training in this speciality medical with the Aged and Extended Care Services, a Professorial geriatric medicine service in Central Adelaide Local Health Network linked to the University of Adelaide. The advanced training positions are based at one of South Australia's leading acute referral, teaching, and research centres, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, with a research precinct, the Basil Hetzel Institute. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital provides for a range of acute and sub-acute services in one hospital campus, ranging from emergency department services, intensive care services, medical and surgical services to geriatric medicine, rehabilitation, palliative medicine and psychogeriatric medicine services. Accredited for two core years of advanced training in geriatric medicine and supporting also non core training, rotations could include experience in Inpatient Geriatric Medicine (Geriatric Evaluation and Management & Acute Geriatrics), Orthogeriatric Medicine, Acute Medical Unit Liaison Service, Rural Ambulatory Geriatric Evaluation and Management (Port Lincoln and Whyalla), Psychogeriatric Medicine, Outpatients (including falls and cognitive clinics) and community geriatric medicine. The geriatric medicine service at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital also provide geriatrician medical services to Central Adelaide Local Health Network's Transition Care Program, delivering post acute restorative care services in residential aged care locations and homes to almost 160 patients. A multi-faceted role where you will gain a diverse range of experience, you will be responsible for managing the care of all patients allocated to current department in consultation with the responsible Registrars, Consultants, Nurses and Allied Health professionals. Able to function effectively within a fast-paced environment, you will maintain a high standard of patient care for inpatients and outpatients and provide an effective and accurate clinical handover of patient care at the change of daily shifts and the change of a clinical attachment. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to actively contribute to continuous quality improvement and education activities, participating in the department's CME, research and teaching program. A team player who can operate effectively as part of a team or individually, you will demonstrate competency in routine and common procedural ward-based skills. You will possess high-level skills in negotiation and communication, exhibiting the ability to display genuine empathy for patients and their relatives and family. Able to work under pressure without compromising patient care, you will have proven skills in problem-solving and decision-making at both the clinical and the individual levels.
