The Opportunity
Reporting to the CEO, the Director is responsible for providing
legal expertise and strategic leadership to the Civil Law
Division and its exceptional legal team. The Civil Law Division
provides expertise in civil and administrative law, driven to
help vulnerable and disadvantaged people navigate the justice
system and resolve complex legal challenges. The Director will
bring a strong knowledge of Commonwealth civil law priorities,
including consumer law, human rights and anti-discrimination,
migration, and social security, and confidently appear before
the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) and the South
Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (SACAT).
This role will promote collaboration within the team and across
the entire organisation to support the best and most
comprehensive service provision to some of the most vulnerable
members of our community.
As a member of Legal Services' Executive, the Director, Civil
Law Division will also work closely with internal leaders and
external stakeholders in ensuring justice is available and
accessible for all South Australians.

Remuneration Package
SAES1: $192,382 to $295,973 per annum
As a not-for-profit organisation, Legal Services is able to
offer its employees attractive salary sacrifice arrangements,
including up to $15,900 pre-tax Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) year
for general living expenses.
Position Status
This is an executive role with an initial 3 year contract.
What You Need for Success
The ideal candidate must:
- be an admitted practitioner of the South Australian Supreme
Court and High Court of Australia with an unrestricted
Practicing Certificate and solid post-admission experience in
civil and administrative law or other relevant legal practice
area.
- have demonstrated experience in leading a team of lawyers
involved in providing legal services in one or more of the
Commonwealth civil law priorities identified in the National
Access to Justice Partnership (which include consumer law,
human rights and anti-discrimination, migration and social
security matters).
- be a collaborative and empathetic leader with outstanding
written and verbal communication skills, who can effectively
lead and motivate staff, while building and maintaining
productive relationships with a range of internal and external
stakeholders.
- have strong technical knowledge and a sound understanding
of relevant legislation and regulations, as well as experience
in financial management and project delivery.
- ideally have experience working with digital document
management systems and knowledge of technology in legal
practice.
