As a Gambling Officer, this opportunity allows you to support safe and responsible gambling in South Australia through meaningful regulatory work in licensing, compliance, and harm minimisation.

As a Gambling Officer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the effective regulation of gambling in South Australia. You will assess applications, facilitate gambling barrings, and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to uphold the integrity of gambling operations across the state. The role requires careful review of technical approvals for gaming machines, the interpretation and application of legislation, and the provision of well‑reasoned recommendations to inform regulatory decisions. Responding to enquiries clearly, accurately, and professionally will be central to the role, alongside maintaining strict confidentiality.

Working both independently and collaboratively within the Gambling and Associations team, you will play a key role in promoting integrity and harm minimisation across the gambling sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess gambling-related applications against relevant legislation and policy.
  • Facilitate voluntary gambling barrings and refer individuals to support services.
  • Liaise with applicants and stakeholders to clarify information and support decision- making.
  • Provide high-quality customer service and guidance on application processes.
  • Interpret and apply legislation to make informed and impartial decisions.
  • Prepare detailed written advice and recommendations for regulatory action.
  • Manage sensitive records and evidence in line with document control procedures.

About the Business

The Attorney‑General’s Department (AGD) is a key portfolio within the South Australian Government, employing more than 1,900 staff. Special Conditions for Employment

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.
