Regional Marine Officer

ASO5 - $85,790 - $95,413 

Full-time, 12-month contract

We are seeking a Regional Marine Officer to play a pivotal role in strengthening marine operational capability across SA SES and Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR) teams. This is a hands‑on, training delivery role where your expertise will directly contribute to safer, more effective marine emergency response across South Australia. This position is being offered on an initial 12-month term with a possibility of extension.

About the role

Reporting to the Volunteer Manager, Marine Rescue and Water Safety, as the Regional Marine Officer, you will support regional marine readiness through the delivery of and assessment of high-quality training, capability development and operational preparedness.

Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • delivery and assessment of high-quality marine training to volunteers through consistent and fit for purpose training
  • build marine operational capability and preparedness of SA SES Units and VMR flotilla by supporting effective marine response and contributing to contingency planning and risk assessments
  • fostering a confident and capable volunteer base and supporting volunteer engagement and retention
  • strengthen community and partnership engagement through coordinated and effective communication, and
  • ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures and embedding continuous improvement in marine operational processes.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring the following:

A current class C motor vehicle drivers’ licence and the capacity and willingness to undertake regular regional travel are a requirement for this role.

This role will also include work outside of standard work hours, including weekend shifts, on a regular basis. Employees who undertake this work are remunerated appropriately under the relevant industrial instruments.

Operational duties

As an emergency assistance and rescue service, our people undertake duties across our routine business functions, as well as participating in operational duties during event activations. This provides a unique opportunity to not only use the skills and knowledge you have in your daily occupation, but also to develop tactical skills while being part of the emergency response.

Operational duties may be rostered across mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and public holidays. Staff who are rostered on operational duties are remunerated appropriately and in accordance with the relevant industrial instruments.
