Services
The Department employs
approximately 2,000 staff and has responsibility for nine prisons
and fifteen Community Correctional offices across the state. Our
vision is for a safer community by protecting the public and
reducing re-offending. We work towards this through the
contribution of staff who are employed in a wide variety of fields,
from correctional officers and teachers, to social workers,
psychologists and supervisors of court orders. Their commitment
ensures we deliver quality services to prisoners, offenders and

Duties
The
Correctional Educator provides learning services to students
undertaking departmentally approved training and instructional
programs whilst under the supervision of Correctional Services.
Correctional Educators will deliver and assess departmentally
approved education programs of study or training. Correctional
Educators will provide training and assessment for prisoners in
line with the priorities of the Department for Correctional
Services (DCS) and determine and implement flexible delivery
methodologies within the prescribed limits of the training
program.
Special
Conditions
• Section 47
of the Public Sector Act 2009 applies in conjunction with other
provisions of the act and other applicable industrial
entitlements.
• The incumbent
is required to satisfactorily complete a National Criminal History
Check.
• A current
South Australian Driver’s Licence is essential.
• A flexible
approach to working hours is required.
• Some
interstate and intrastate travel will be required which may
necessitate overnight absences.
Requirements
Essential: Nil
Desirable:
• Adult
education or other appropriate tertiary qualifications.
• The necessary
training and assessment competencies as determined by the National
Skills Standards Council, or its successors, which is currently the
Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment.
• The relevant
vocational certificate/competencies at least to the level of
certificate being delivered or assessed or as required
by the accredited course or training package being
delivered.
