About the Opportunity

Consumer and Business Services (CBS) is seeking an experienced and capable Manager to lead the registration and assessments team within the Compliance and Enforcement Branch.

This role is central to CBS’s regulatory function, overseeing the registration and assessment of complaints and exercising delegated statutory authority to determine appropriate, proportionate and risk‑based responses. You will make decisions on early enforcement action, referrals for investigation and the use of other statutory powers, ensuring matters are handled consistently, lawfully and in a timely manner.

Operating under broad direction, you will provide high‑level advice to senior leaders on complex, sensitive and high‑risk matters. You will also contribute to organisational priorities by identifying emerging risks, systemic issues and enforcement trends, and by driving continuous improvement in assessment, decision‑making and customer service processes.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the registration, assessment and determination of complaints in line with legislation and CBS policy.
  • Exercise delegated statutory authority to determine appropriate regulatory and enforcement responses.
  • Provide high‑level advice to senior leaders on complex, sensitive and high‑risk matters.
  • Lead, develop and support a high‑performing team delivering consistent, high‑quality outcomes.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance assessment, quality and customer service practices.
  • Build effective working relationships across CBS and with key internal and external stakeholders.

You are an experienced people leader with strong judgement and a background in regulatory, compliance or investigative environments. You are confident making defensible decisions under pressure and managing a high volume of complex and sensitive work.

About the Business
The Attorney General’s Department (AGD) is a key portfolio within the South Australian Government, employing more than 1,900 staff. AGD delivers high level legal services and advice to Ministers and government agencies, provides specialist policy support, oversees regulation and compliance functions, and delivers essential services directly to the community.

Consumer and Business Services (CBS) is a division of the Attorney-General’s Department and is responsible for protecting consumers, supporting and regulating businesses and recording significant life events for South Australians. CBS is customer focussed and flexible in its activities, providing accessible information and services. 

The Compliance and Enforcement Branch is responsible for receiving complaints about breaches of legislation, assessing and investigating those complaints, inspecting premises to ascertain whether they are compliant with legislation and taking enforcement action to address non-compliance.

Special Conditions for Employment
Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.

  • Some out of hours work may be required.
  • Eligible to be appointed and exercise the powers and functions of an Authorised Officer or Inspector under relevant legislation. - Will be authorised to issue Expiation Notices under relevant legislation.
