One that is equitable and prioritises learning and wellbeing. Together we will make our education system the best it can be. When our children and young people thrive, so do our communities and our state.
Consultancy, coaching, capability building and cultural responsiveness underpin Inclusive Educator work. Inclusive Educators provide proactive, targeted and intensive services to preschools and schools to support children and young people with additional needs, including disability, sensory impairment, developmental delay, complex health needs, communication difficulties, learning difficulties, disengagement or non-attendance, and unsafe and/or unproductive behaviours. They work collaboratively with educators, leaders and families to establish optimal learning environments, strengthen differentiated and evidence-based teaching practices, and implement appropriate supports and adjustments that enable children and young people to engage, participate and succeed in education. A critical aspect of the role is promoting inclusive environments that support engagement, participation and positive outcomes for all learners. Inclusive Educators support preschools and schools to interpret policy, implement evidence-based practices, and apply the Disability Standards for Education to meet obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). They also strengthen whole-site inclusive practices and build educator capability to improve outcomes for diverse learners. Inclusive Educators play a key role in Education Pathways, working collaboratively with schools, preschools, families and multidisciplinary teams to support informed decision-making regarding the most appropriate educational pathway for children and young people. This includes contributing to transition planning, referrals, eligibility and placement considerations, and supporting access to specialised education options where required. Working with a range of key partners, Inclusive Educators collaborate with schools, preschools, families, local education teams, internal services and external agencies to ensure coordinated, high-quality support for children and young people with additional needs. As part of the multidisciplinary Student Support Services (SSS) team, Inclusive Educators provide targeted intervention, coaching and consultation to build educator capacity, improve teaching practice, support transitions, coordinate referrals, and strengthen inclusive learning outcomes across educational settings. Student Support Services values and prioritises Aboriginal ways of knowing, doing and being.
