The Department for Infrastructure and Transport plays a vital role connecting people and places in South Australia by managing roads, marine and public transport networks across the State, and builds and maintains the State-owned infrastructure that enables the delivery of essential and important government services to our community.

The Opportunity 

Join our Driver Licensing Standards team through this recruitment pool and help improve road safety across South Australia. Government Examiners conduct practical driving assessments for licence applicants, including motor driving instructors and heavy vehicle drivers, ensuring fair, safe, and impartial testing. The role supports licensing integrity, engages with instructors and authorised examiners, and may include medical driving assessments and training future heavy vehicle examiners. Contribute to safer driving across the community.

About you 

You’re a clear communicator with strong judgement, able to work independently or in a team while managing high workloads with accuracy and professionalism. You provide clear instructions, constructive feedback, and handle diverse or challenging customer interactions with respect. You deliver fair, consistent competency assessments and adapt well to changing procedures. With integrity, ethical conduct, and a commitment to road safety, you’re ready to support safe driving outcomes across the community.

Educational Qualifications / Licences  

  • Hold a current Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics – Road Transport – Driving Instruction (highly desirable).
  • Driver’s Licence (must meet Qualified Supervising Driver standard, heavy vehicles desirable)
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (highly desirable).

Special Conditions 

  • A National Police Check (NPC) which is required to employment with the Department of Infrastructure and Transport and is required to be renewed every three years.
  • A Department for Human Services (DHS) Working with Children Check (WWCC) which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry
  • Some out of hours and weekend work, along with some intra/interstate travel requiring overnight stays, may be required.

Tenure of Vacancy

Multiple opportunities are available through this recruitment pool, with temporary appointments of up to two (2) years.

Remuneration

 OPS4 - $79,432 to $83,266 pa + superannuation
