We are currently seeking applications for a Senior Cyber Security Specialist, to join the Information and Technology branch within The Department of Treasury & Finance for an initial period of 12 months with a possibility of extension.

Remuneration : ASO6 – Salary Range ($102,171 to $108,071 p.a)

About the Opportunity:

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Cyber Security, the Senior Cyber Security Specialist leads cyber security governance, risk management and assurance activities across the Department of Treasury and Finance. The role manages and maintains the cyber security governance framework (policies, standards, procedures and supporting systems), supports delivery of the Cyber Security Program through planning and coordination of work items and reporting, and conducts audits, compliance reviews and control testing against recognised frameworks. The position also contributes to investigations of security policy breaches, prepares clear written advice, coordinates remediation of findings, and builds strong relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders to support ICT projects and uplift cyber security maturity.

About you

Working under general direction, you will be highly organised and proactive, with strong experience in cyber security governance, risk management and assurance. You will be comfortable coordinating competing priorities and dependencies to deliver work items within tight timeframes, and confident engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders to provide pragmatic advice. You will bring strong written and verbal communication skills to produce concise briefings and clear guidance, and a continuous improvement mindset to strengthen cyber security controls, compliance and remediation outcomes.

To be successful you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong knowledge of contemporary security controls and solutions, and the practical application of risk management to design, deploy and operate security services.
  • Experience developing, reviewing and improving cyber security governance artefacts (policies, standards, procedures) and assurance activities.
  • Proven capability in security audits and compliance reviews, including tracking findings and coordinating remediation actions to closure.
  • Experience with control testing against recognised industry frameworks and an ability to apply risk-based thinking aligned to AS ISO 31000:2018.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including vulnerability management prioritisation based on risk and business impact, and the ability to produce clear written advice for senior audiences.

About the team

The role sits within the Information & Technology (I&T) Branch, which delivers a full suite of centrally delivered digital services for the Department of Treasury and Finance—from high quality ICT support to the delivery of innovative and transformative initiatives. The Cyber Security team partners across the department to strengthen governance, manage risk, provide assurance, and support the delivery of cyber security uplift initiatives that enable DTF to be a trusted and secure digital organisation.
