About the Opportunity

PIRSA is seeking a Senior Policy Officer - Emergency Management to play a key role in strengthening emergency preparedness, response and recovery for South Australia’s primary industries and regions. Based in the Emergency Management, Drought and Resilience team, you will help shape and maintain PIRSA’s emergency management plans and policies, working collaboratively across government and with key stakeholders.

How You’ll Make a Difference

In this role, you will:

  • Coordinate the development, review and maintenance of PIRSA’s Emergency Management Plan and associated response, relief and recovery documentation.
  • Ensure emergency management policies and plans clearly reflect PIRSA’s responsibilities under South Australia’s emergency management arrangements.
  • Capture and embed lessons from emergency incidents, exercises and recovery activities to strengthen preparedness.
  • Deliver clear, timely and well‑researched briefs to support emergency management responsibilities.
  • Build and sustain strong working relationships across PIRSA and with other government agencies.
  • Contribute to projects that support agency‑wide and broader emergency management priorities.

You will bring:

  • The ability to apply sound professional judgement and technical knowledge to emergency management policy and planning.
  • Confidence working with complex information to produce clear, well‑structured documentation.
  • Knowledge of emergency management frameworks, planning and documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.
  • The capacity to manage priorities and contribute effectively in a dynamic environment.

Special Conditions

  • Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment.
  • Ongoing opportunity, full time, 37.5 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Possession of a current driver’s license and willingness to drive.
  • Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required.
  • Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
  • You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations when applying for a role.
  • The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.

Remuneration

ASO6 - $102,171 min - $108,071 max per annum, plus superannuation
