An exciting opportunity awaits an experienced communications professional to play a key role in leading the development, planning, and implementation of effective communication activities aligned with the strategic objectives of this high profile State Government agency.

The Communications Coordinator works within the Corporate Affairs and Government Relations team, reporting to the Strategic Communications Manager.

Role Purpose/Context:

The Communications Coordinator will have responsibility for the planning and delivery of communication activities across media, web, print, social media and marketing collateral. This will include leading and contributing to a range of initiatives across all agency portfolios; Defence SA, South Australian Space Industry Centre, Defence Innovation Partnership and Veterans SA.

Key selection criteria:

  • Extensive experience working in a senior communications or media role.
  • Proven ability to create high-quality content across various mediums including editorials, web, ad copy, social media, scripts and presentations.
  • Strong track record in developing, implementing and evaluating effective communication strategies and plans.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to tailor communications for diverse audiences.
  • Background in preparing speeches and executive-level presentations.
  • Experience in delivering digital communications including social media, web content, e-newsletters, video and podcasts.
  • Experience in media liaison, including writing media releases and pitching to media, and a sound understanding of what makes news.
  • Background in supporting integrated marketing campaigns, across advertising, public relations and editorial channels.
  • Ability to build and maintain productive stakeholder relationships to achieve positive communication outcomes.
  • Skilled at translating complex information into clear, concise and accessible content.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with cultural sensitivity front of mind.
  • Capable of working independently to develop innovative solutions to complex issues.
  • Ability to work as part of a team to develop and accomplish shared goals by taking an active role in contributing ideas, knowledge and expertise.
  • Proven ability to exercise tact, tolerance and humour to build positive working relationships.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects to tight deadlines.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Resilient and adaptable in the face of change, ambiguity and competing priorities.

Special Conditions

This is a contract / term vacancy up to 24 months. The incumbent is required to enter into a performance agreement. Work outside of normal hours will be required and the position may require interstate travel involving overnight absences. 

Essential Qualifications

Tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism or appropriate workplace experience.
