Overview:
- The Project Officer is responsible for coordinating, executing and reviewing programs and projects which support the effective administration of food legislation and standards throughout the State. The role reviews food legislation and develops and implements sound programs, plans, protocols and tools for the implementation, monitoring of compliance, and enforcement of requirements.
- The Project Officer also reviews documents and addresses complex food incidents, complaints and enquiries and provides sound advice to food safety regulators and other stakeholders. The Project Officer investigates, assesses and reports on matters in relation food legislation, programs, food safety, and composition and labelling, and participates in programs that ensure the maintenance of safe and healthy environment.

Criminal History Screening Requirement
- A 'National Police Certificate' NPC (also known as a 'Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check' NCCHC) for employment involving no contact with vulnerable groups is required for this position (general employment).
Immunisation Risk for this position is Category C (minimal patient contact).
SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.
Special Conditions
- A relevant science degree, such as, microbiology, food science, food technology or environmental health.
- Knowledge and understanding of food safety risks, the strategies and procedures employed to assess food safety risks and actions necessary to eliminate, minimise and manage risks.
- Specialist knowledge of the South Australia Food Act 2001, national food standards and international standards.
- Understanding of the mechanisms for developing legislation and standards, and local and international influences on food legislation and standards.
- Experience in undertaking and coordinating complex research, investigations and evaluations in relation to food and in preparing clear concise reports and complex technical written reports and briefings.
- Experience coordinating or undertaking projects related to the administration of food legislation including working with Environmental Health Officers in local councils, laboratories, other state government regulators and food businesses.
