The Opportunity
The Lawyer, Family Safety is responsible for providing specialist legal information, advice, advocacy and representation to adults, children and/or young people who are experiencing or have experienced domestic, family and/or sexual violence (DFSV).
Grounded in health justice principles, the role integrates legal expertise into broader care planning to improve accessibility, with a strong focus on early intervention, safety, recovery and justice.
The role will assist in establishing and maintaining relationships with agencies and service providers, travel to clinics, health units and domestic violence support services, in particular the Women's Safety Services SA Hubs, Relationships Australia SA, Health & Recovery Trauma Safety Services and relevant Local Health Networks, where adults, children and/or young people may present as a result of DFSV.
The role will assist and contribute to the development and delivery of educational training sessions for Health Justice Partnerships.
Sexual Violence Legal Service (SVLS) Establishment
Legal Services has established a Sexual Violence Legal Service Pilot Program in South Australia (SVLS). The SVLS operates as a health justice partnership with Metropolitan Youth Health and other community support services to provide legal information, advice, representation, and support to people who have experienced sexual violence.
This position may sit within this program and/or within other programs the Family Safety Team administers, to assist people who have experienced or who are experiencing DFSV.
Salary Range
Appointment will be made based on your experience at either the LSC1 or LSC2 classification.
LSC1 - $74,599 to $85,071 per annum plus 12% superannuation and leave loading
LSC2 - $90,080 to $101,620 per annum plus 12% superannuation and leave loading
As a not-for-profit organisation, Legal Services is able to offer its employees attractive salary sacrifice arrangements, including up to $15,900 pre-tax each Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) year for general living expenses.
Term of Employment
Temporary contract available at the LSC1 or LSC2 classification level, appointment will be made depending on experience.
What You Need for Success
The ideal LSC2 candidate will:
- Hold an unrestricted Category C Practising Certificate or currently eligible to apply for an unrestricted Category C Practising Certificate.
- Be an admitted practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia or currently eligible for admission to practise in South Australia.
- Have a minimum of two (2) years post admission legal experience.
- Have demonstrated ability in supporting adults, children and/or young people experiencing DFSV.
- Have a demonstrated ability employing trauma informed practice techniques.
- Ability to confidently provide concise legal advice by assessing problems logically, thoroughly and reliably with due skill and diligence.
- Be able to think strategically about the legal problems that arise for adults, children and/or young people, who have experienced DFSV, and how these legal problems may be resolved.
- Knowledge of domestic and family violence related laws, practice and the law of evidence in South Australia.

- Hold a Category C Practising Certificate or currently eligible to apply for a Category C Practising Certificate.
- Be an admitted practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia or currently eligible for admission to practise in South Australia.
- Ability in supporting adults, children and/or young people experiencing DFSV.
- Be able to provide concise legal advice by assessing problems logically, thoroughly and reliably with due skill and diligence.
- Experience in establishing trust and confidence with clients and key stakeholders.
- Knowledge of domestic and family violence law, practice and the law of evidence in South Australia.
