Role Details:

The Department for Child Protection (DCP) is the South Australian Government agency responsible for keeping children and young people safe from harm. It works closely with families, carers, community organisations and other government agencies to respond to child protection concerns and strengthen family wellbeing. Where children cannot safely remain at home, DCP arranges appropriate care, prioritising kinship and family-based placements wherever possible. The Department also supports reunification when it is safe to do so and provides ongoing case management to promote stability, safety and positive life outcomes. DCP is committed to child-centred, culturally responsive practice and improving outcomes for vulnerable children across South Australia.

The Principal Employee Relations Consultant delivers expert industrial and employee relations advice to Directors and Managers across the Department for Child Protection, supporting sound employment practices, effective management of industrial risk and the progression of change initiatives in line with departmental and government policy. Working closely with Executive and senior leaders, the Consultant undertakes complex investigations, manages disciplinary processes and represents the Department in matters before the South Australian Employment Tribunal. The position also contributes to continuous improvement of employee-related policies and plays a key role in significant organisational change projects to support DCP’s objectives and reputation as an employer of choice.

The successful candidate will bring transferable experience working with human resources or employee relations policies and practices, including the ability to interpret legislation, policy or industrial instruments to support sound and balanced decision-making. Experience managing complex workplace matters, disputes or disciplinary processes will be highly regarded, but is not essential. You will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders on sensitive workforce matters. With sound judgement and analytical capability, you will assess complex issues, identify risks and provide practical advice, supported by clear, accurate and timely written communication.

This is an exceptional and varied opportunity to contribute to important workforce matters while working within a supportive and collaborative team environment.
