The Organisation

Legal Services is passionate about ensuring justice is available and accessible for all South Australians. As the largest legal assistance service in SA, we ensure that South Australians have access to a trusted lawyer when they need help to be heard, and easy ways to learn about their rights and responsibilities, and service to answer any legal questions.

Each year 140,000 South Australians benefit from the services we deliver.

The Opportunity

Legal Services has a current opportunity for a lawyer to join their established and experienced Northern Regions Criminal Law team. Based in either our Port Augusta or Whyalla office, you will assist a wide range of people from this region who are charged with criminal offences, providing extensive in-court representation as well as advice services as part of a high-performing and well-supported team.

Regional criminal practice brings a unique opportunity to support vulnerable and often isolated people in contact with the criminal justice system. You will be given an exciting range of opportunities, with professional guidance and support, and you will grow as an experienced and confident practitioner. You can achieve this while being able to enjoy the benefits of country living at the doorstep of the Flinders Ranges and the Eyre Peninsula.

Applications for this role are sought from either junior lawyers ready to explore a career in criminal law (LSC1 - Duty Lawyer role), or from current criminal practitioners with two or more years post admission experience and an unrestricted certificate (LSC2 - Lawyer role). If you are committed to access to justice and you want to accelerate your criminal law career through rewarding country work, we want to hear from you.

A career at Legal Services is More than Law. See our stories, including from our regional lawyers here.
