The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for an Apiary Support Officer to be part of our Biosecurity Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.

How You'll Make a Difference

As the Apiary Support Officer, you will:

  • Provide operational, administrative and logistical support to assist the effective delivery of the Apiary and Varroa mite program, helping protect South Australia's beekeeping industry.
  • Support the Apiary Unit in the prevention, detection, management and response to exotic and established bee pests and diseases through surveillance activities, stakeholder engagement and information management.
  • Coordinate business support services for the Apiary Unit, including administrative systems, records management, authorisations, permit administration and correspondence, ensuring information is accurate and up to date.
  • Coordinate operational support activities for the Apiary Unit's surveillance and compliance programs, including logistics, resource planning, sample management and stakeholder support.
  • Maintain business systems, online platforms and associated work instructions, supporting data integrity, reporting and consistent business processes.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with beekeepers, industry representatives, service providers and internal stakeholders to support strong biosecurity outcomes.

About You

You will bring:

  • Experience providing administrative, operational or business support in a government, regulatory, agricultural or similar environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records, manage information systems and apply established processes to support operational activities.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and accurately to a range of stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to build productive stakeholder relationships while supporting coordinated service delivery and shared objectives.
  • Sound problem-solving skills and a commitment to continuous improvement, with the ability to identify risks, support problem solving and contribute to effective service delivery.

Special Conditions

  • Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment.
  • Opportunity up to June 2027.
  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Requirements

  • Possession of a current driver’s license and willingness to drive.
  • Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel will be required.
  • Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
  • You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations when applying for a role.
  • The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.
  • Ability to work safely around bees, in remote locations in hot weather and at night.
  • Non-Allergic reaction to bee stings.
  • Incumbent will be required to undertake mandatory training for PHA BOLT Biosecurity in Australia, Reporting a suspect emergency plant pest”, “National EPP Response Management” and “Biosecurity for Beekeepers” modules.

Remuneration

ASO4 - $82,212 min - $86,180 max per annum, plus superannuation
