I studied Conservation and Park Management as part of a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Science through the University of South Australia. I then obtained a Graduate Certificate in River Restoration and Management through Charles Sturt University and completed Postgraduate studies in Marine Conservation Management through James Cook University.
I've had a very long and varied career path. Initially, I got a job as an Interpretive Officer at Seal Bay Conservation Park in 2001. From there, I engaged in a number of roles from working as an Administrative Officer in the department's Kangaroo Island Regional Office, to working as a Project Officer with the Education Unit for the Kangaroo Island Region to Assistant Site Manager at Seal Bay Conservation Park. From there I went through the Department for Environment and Water (formally Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources) Graduate Ranger Program where I secured a position as a Ranger at Blackhill Conservation that led me to my current position as a Senior Ranger at Deep Creek Conservation Park.
The day in the life as a Ranger can be varied and dynamic. My day can range from liaising with park visitors, park patrolling, campground checks, engaging in prescribed burning and bushfire operations, park asset management, assisting with search and rescue operations on park, wildlife and biodiversity management, pest plant and feral animal abatement, working with adjacent landowners and the community and engaging in compliance activities.
The variety of work and each day is never the same and I have the ability to work in the field in a workplace that I am passionate about. This job allows me to follow my vocation - steward and protector of the environment. I am also able to work with an inspiring team of people who are passionate in protecting South Australia's natural resources and biological assets.
I am passionate about working for the environment and love being amongst it all.
I love being a steward for the protection of the environment and its biodiversity.
In my role as a Senior Ranger, I have the opportunity to inspire people and the community to learn about our natural environment, to help protect and value South Australia's natural resources and biodiversity assets.
Working for the public sector gives me the opportunity to work in my dream job. It offers opportunities for training and the ability to apply for jobs across the state in varied fields. Importantly it supports flexible working arrangements which supports me and my family.
South Australia is my home state and there is no better place to live in the world. South Australia is a dynamic place with iconic landscapes and assets, providing a great lifestyle culture with varied locations to live. By working in South Australia, I get the opportunity to live close to my family in a place that is close to my heart.
